About the Course

This course introduces the core principles of petroleum reservoir engineering, giving participants a working understanding of how oil and gas reservoirs store and produce hydrocarbons. It is designed for professionals who are new to reservoir engineering or who need a structured refresher on fundamental concepts before progressing to more advanced technical training.

The program covers rock and fluid properties, drive mechanisms, and material balance methods used to estimate hydrocarbons in place, alongside an introduction to well testing and basic production forecasting. Participants will leave with the technical vocabulary and calculation skills needed to interpret reservoir engineering reports and contribute to field development discussions.

Learning Milestones

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

- Describe key rock and fluid properties governing reservoir behavior.
- Apply material balance methods to estimate original hydrocarbons in place.
- Differentiate reservoir drive mechanisms and their recovery implications.
- Interpret basic well test data to estimate reservoir parameters.
- Explain the relationship between porosity, permeability, and fluid flow.
- Estimate recovery factors associated with different drive mechanisms.
- Communicate reservoir engineering concepts to cross-functional project teams.

Professional Audience

This course is ideal for professionals working in or transitioning into reservoir engineering roles, including:

- Junior reservoir engineers
- Petroleum engineers and geoscientists
- Production and drilling engineers seeking reservoir fundamentals
- Field development planners
- Technical support staff in E&P operations
- Graduate engineers entering the oil and gas sector
- Non-technical staff supporting reservoir engineering teams
