Directional & Horizontal Drilling Technology
Sector:
Oil and Gas - Upstream/Production
Technical Focus Area:
Drilling & Well Engineering
About the Course
This course provides advanced technical training in directional and horizontal drilling, covering the tools, techniques, and planning methods used to steer wells accurately to target. It is designed for experienced drilling professionals working on directional or horizontal well programs.
Participants examine trajectory planning, survey calculations, and rotary steerable and MWD/LWD systems, with emphasis on optimizing horizontal well placement within the target reservoir. Real well examples illustrate how directional decisions affect drilling efficiency and reservoir contact.
Learning Milestones
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Plan a directional well trajectory.
- Interpret survey and MWD/LWD data.
- Optimize horizontal landing and placement strategy.
- Select appropriate directional drilling tools for a given well.
- Evaluate torque and drag considerations in directional wells.
- Identify risks specific to directional and horizontal drilling.
- Coordinate directional drilling operations with the wellsite team.
Professional Audience
This course is ideal for experienced professionals working on directional and horizontal well programs, including:
- Directional drilling engineers
- Drilling engineers and supervisors
- Well placement geologists
- MWD/LWD engineers
- Wellsite supervisors on horizontal programs
