Navigational Design: Wayfinding Delivery & Impact Assessment

Sector:
Sales & Business Development
Technical Focus Area:
Telesales & Telemarketing Skills
About the Course
Tourists often encounter destinations for the first time with little knowledge of the layout or local language. Well-designed wayfinding signage can transform confusion into confidence, helping visitors navigate intuitively while subtly communicating the character and brand of a place. This course lays the foundation by exploring the principles of wayfinding, the psychological aspects of how people orient themselves, and the key elements of effective signage design—typography, symbols, color, hierarchy, and placement.
Moving from concept to execution, participants will learn how to analyze sites, understand user journeys, and plan coherent wayfinding systems that work across indoor and outdoor environments. They will examine materials, fabrication techniques, and sustainability considerations, and explore how digital tools—from interactive kiosks to AR experiences—can complement physical signage without overwhelming users. The program also emphasizes evaluation and continuous improvement through user testing, metrics, and stakeholder feedback.
Recognizing that wayfinding projects are collaborative by nature, the course addresses how to work with local communities, tourism boards, designers, planners, and decision-makers. Participants will practice communicating the value and ROI of effective wayfinding, building buy-in for their projects. By the end of the course, they will be able to design, implement, and evaluate tourism wayfinding systems that enhance navigation, support destination storytelling, and measurably improve visitor experiences.
