About the Course
Road maintenance is a continuous management discipline, not a one-off construction project. This course reframes networks as assets that demand structured inventory, condition monitoring, risk-based prioritization, and disciplined execution across surfaces, structures, drainage, and traffic controls.
You’ll build a road management plan that aligns budgets with needs, applies multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) for program selection, and integrates sustainability and resilience. We translate best practices—pavement evaluation, resurfacing, rehabilitation, and emergency response—into daily workflows that reduce lifecycle cost and user disruption.
Throughout, you’ll apply modern data and engineering tools (LIDAR, point clouds, safety audits, big data/traffic analytics, ITS) to improve accuracy, transparency, and outcomes.
Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain why road maintenance is central to network safety, reliability, and lifecycle cost.
- Build and maintain a defensible road/infrastructure inventory and condition database.
- Prioritize maintenance and rehabilitation using MCDM with risk, cost, and service criteria.
- Develop a comprehensive road management plan with goals, KPIs, and funding scenarios.
- Plan and manage projects/work zones to minimize disruption and ensure safety.
- Select appropriate strategies across preservation, resurfacing, rehab, and reconstruction.
- Apply lifecycle cost analysis (LCCA) to optimize program and project decisions.
- Leverage digital tools (LIDAR, point clouds, traffic/big data, ITS) for smarter decisions.
- Improve program evaluation and reporting to drive continuous improvement.
Who Should Attend
- Project Managers (public works/transport agencies)
- Traffic, Highway & Civil Engineers
- Consultants & Contractors involved in maintenance delivery
- Operations/Maintenance Supervisors and Technicians
- Engineers/Technologists in local, state, or federal agencies
