Asset Integrity: Corrosion Mitigation in Complex Environments

Sector:
Cross-Industry – General
Technical Focus Area:
Oil & Gas Operations & Engineering (OG-OPS)
About the Course
This course equips participants with the essential tools to recognize, assess, and control corrosion in environments where hydrocarbons and water interact — conditions commonly found in pipelines, tanks, vessels, and production equipment. Attendees will examine the underlying electrochemical processes, learn how to identify types of corrosion (such as CO₂, H₂S, MIC, and erosion-corrosion), and apply appropriate mitigation strategies based on system design and environmental exposure.
Learning Milestones
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand corrosion mechanisms in oil, gas, and water processing systems.
- Identify common types of corrosion affecting pipelines and facility equipment.
- Evaluate corrosion risks based on process conditions and material compatibility.
- Select appropriate mitigation methods such as chemical inhibitors, coatings, and cathodic protection.
- Interpret data from corrosion monitoring tools and inspection methods.
- Apply industry best practices for corrosion control and materials selection.
- Analyze case studies and develop practical strategies for corrosion prevention.
- Understand regulatory and safety considerations in corrosion management.
