About the Course
This course provides practical training in reserves and resources estimation under the SPE Petroleum Resources Management System (SPE-PRMS). Participants learn how classification decisions affect corporate reporting, investment decisions, and regulatory compliance across the reserves lifecycle.
The program covers deterministic and probabilistic estimation techniques, decline curve analysis, and the documentation standards needed to defend reserves figures during internal and external audits. Case studies illustrate common classification challenges encountered in mature and developing fields.
Learning Milestones
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Classify reserves and resources per the SPE-PRMS framework.
- Apply probabilistic (P90/P50/P10) estimation methods.
- Prepare a defensible reserves report for internal or external audit.
- Apply decline curve analysis to estimate remaining reserves.
- Distinguish proved, probable, and possible reserve categories.
- Evaluate the impact of commercial and technical uncertainty on reserves.
- Align reserves reporting with regulatory and investor requirements.
