Technical Focus Area:
Rotating Equipment & Turbomachinery (ROT)
About the Course
Machines age, wear, and fail—often in predictable ways. This course teaches the physics and patterns behind machinery failures (wear, fatigue, bearings/seals) and maps them to the signals you can measure. You’ll learn to deploy predictive maintenance (PdM) techniques—vibration, thermography, ultrasonics, and tribology—so you can detect faults early, plan interventions, and avoid catastrophic breakdowns.
With a strong emphasis on vibration analysis, you’ll practice spectrum interpretation (FFT), demodulation/enveloping, high-frequency detection, and resonance identification/cure. We’ll connect diagnostics to reliability methods (Weibull/statistics) and show how to integrate PdM into your maintenance plan, complete with alarm strategies, reporting, KPIs, and cost/benefit tracking.
By the end, you’ll have a practical framework and toolset to build or upgrade a predictive maintenance program that’s technically sound, economically justified, and operationally sustainable.
Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Apply machine failure analysis techniques to diagnose underlying causes.
- Explain PdM principles and select appropriate technologies for each failure mode.
- Configure and use vibration analysis (sensors, FFT, demodulation) for fault detection.
- Interpret thermographic, ultrasonic, and oil analysis results to corroborate vibration findings.
- Use reliability statistics to set thresholds, prioritize work, and estimate risk.
- Build alarm schemes and diagnostic workflows that reduce false positives/negatives.
- Optimize maintenance resources through data-driven planning and scheduling.
- Quantify PdM value with KPIs and cost analysis to sustain management support.
- Integrate PdM into the overall maintenance strategy with clear roles and reports.
